When I first way this concept car, I was floored. It its beautiful, well, just don't look at the rear. But seriously, the headlights, curves, grill, and many other features are quite nice. When !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! was posted on Jalopnik I started to wonder what direction MB is going. Does anyone have any idea.

MB is really trying to throw out the viewpoint of it being a staid, safe, luxury landyacht. They've been moving towards a sportier and much more aggressive design language to help them compete better with BMW and Audi. I see this trend continuing for the forseeable future.

Kind of a follow up, I also see that MB is consolidating a lot of its design cues, which is very interesting. The new C will look like a baby S. The CLA looks like a baby CLS. I think this great for cohesiveness.

If this portends MB's direction, then I'd say they are tired of building practical cars.

Also, those wheels are pissing me off.

I just like to imagine the engineers were thinking:

"let's see them try to stance this, arseholes"

In response to your second post, I have to say that BMW did the same thing about two years ago. Even working at a BMW dealership, it took me a while to realize what cars were which. The 3s looked like 5s and the 5s looked like 7s. I guess now we have the 2 series to resemble a traditional 3 series. I don't mean to be one of those people complaining about the generational changes of the 3. I'm just saying the with everything getting bigger, BMW needed a smaller car.

I think this was an independent branch off their current design language. There is a lot of SLS in the design with a healthy helping of "and now for something completely different" added.
